Chelsea LeClair is in her hotel room on the night of the “Dinner For All” for HKW: Underground. She’s not dressed up for the occasion at all less than one hour before it’s set to begin. In fact, the former GCWA World Champion is feeling jaded at the moment. She’s been through quite a bit, in particular, losing said world title back to someone that did nothing but bury her and call her an ‘F-tier jobber’, a ‘joke’ among other things. It’s not known how long Chelsea felt that was true after the fact, if she felt it at all. But the brightness within her when that event, along with her HKW frustrations, has disappeared for the moment. Chelsea is merely satisfied with leaving the hotel room and walking down the hallway to mind her own business. She’s not in any mood to talk to anyone as she walks by a few patrons.
“Hey…” she hears a familiar voice, and not a good one. Chelsea pauses and turns around seeing a familiar face… one that brings nothing but dread to her.
“I haven’t had a good time lately and now YOU’RE here…” Chelsea says to the woman. “...what do you want Jazmyn? Are you going to rub everything in? Are you going to tell me how shit I am because I held a world title for like a month? Are you going to give me a bunch of shit for being oh for forever in HKW opportunities? Come on, Jaz! Lay it on me! Get it over with! Why are you even here anyway?”
Jazmyn Rain certainly has spent much of 2020 bullying Chelsea over social media becoming her biggest detractor that she’d constantly prove wrong again and again. But the expression on the face of her former GCW colleague indicates that she’s not about to do any of these things.
“I’m here for Aphrodite and Aubrianna…” Jazmyn points out. “But you? What? You’re not going to the Dinner For All?”
“I don’t see why I should. It’s not like I have any friends in this company.”
“I really think you should, Chelsea.”
“Who are you to tell me what to do?” Chelsea asks with hostility in her voice. She becomes surprised when Jazmyn begins to express guilt on her face.
“I’m sorry…” Jazmyn says, much to Chelsea’s surprise. “...I’m sorry for spending the whole year making fun of you, mocking you, telling you that you weren’t anything in professional wrestling and so on and so forth. It’s no excuse, but this whole year, I’ve been dealing with misery and frustration with my own career. 2020 has been a lost year for me. I know you don’t care about that, nor should you. But I bring it up because I took my insecurities out on you. I wanted to put you down to make me feel better. All you did this whole year was prove me wrong.”
Chelsea doesn’t respond right away as she’s still taking so much of this in.
“I know that you haven’t gotten over the hump in HKW… I know that what just happened to you in GCWA was pretty cruel…”
“I’m surprised you’d want to talk to a ‘joke, F-tier wrestler’ like me…”
“I never called you that…”
“Well no but…”
“Chelsea… just because someone so insecure with themselves said those things and then took a world title from you doesn’t make it true. I feel for you. My first world title reign wasn’t what I wanted it to be either… and I too lost that to someone that I couldn’t stand for the life of me and that I just wanted to go away and disappear. I get it. Take it from me of all people. You’re not a joke. You’re not an F-tier jobber. You’re not anything that woman called you… and this is ME… your worst critic this whole year… telling you this. You’re a legitimate professional wrestler on the verge of being a finished product. Don’t let someone like that take it away from you.”
“Why are you being so nice to me now?”
“Because I don’t want you to get caught up in your own shortcomings and insecurities… you know… like I did. You can get that GCWA World title back. You can win the Tapout title here. I know times have been hard on you lately but that doesn’t mean you can’t go to that dinner and celebrate your growth this entire year. Seriously! You went from a disgrace to society and an absolute nobody to a world champion in less than a year. And you’re going to let people who don’t matter in the end tell you otherwise?”
Chelsea takes this in for a bit while Jazmyn continues.
“It’s like I told a mutual former mentor of ours so many years ago: what other people say about you don’t matter. What matters is how you feel about yourself. You may not feel this way right now, but inside you’re a champion. You’re an inspiration for those that are on a similar rags to riches story. In your heart, you know that. Don’t let one bad experience or an outcome that you didn’t want tell you otherwise.”
“Yeah, you’re right…” Chelsea admits. “I was feeling jaded all in all. A month ago when that happened in GCWA, it really felt like some kind of Cinderella fluke run came to an end…”
“Chelsea, if this was a ‘Cinderella fluke run’, you would’ve never won that world title in the first place and you wouldn’t be about to challenge for the Tapout title in HKW. You’ve got so much room to grow. It may not seem that way because you’re more of a late bloomer but… hon… you’re looking at a late bloomer who didn’t win a world title until she was 31 and let me tell you, coming along at a later age than expected… there’s nothing wrong with that.”
“Thank you…” Chelsea says, starting to feel a little better. Certainly, hearing these positive words from the woman that had put her down the most out of anyone in 2020 does help her sift through some bitter, jaded feelings she was experiencing since that night in GCWA. She thinks about where she started when she first signed her HKW contract and this caused everyone to wonder why someone would even bother signing her. Thinking about her entire year and how much she’s grown does bring a bit of a smile to her face. “...I never thought I’d need that from you, but I really did. I’m glad you apologized because a lot of what you said and did to me hurt so much more than I let on. Thank you for that apology. I accept it and all is forgiven. If I can make even my harshest critic come around and pull off what I have this year… then I’m truly capable of anything!”
“Exactly!” Jazmyn says with a smile, further reassuring the positive thoughts that were just inserted into Chelsea’s head.
“Shoot, I better get ready! I’m running out of time!” Chelsea says.
“Huh?” Jazmyn is confused as Chelsea begins to walk back toward her hotel room. “Where are you going?”
“I need to get ready for that dinner… but it was nice talking to you like this. I’m going to be late! Sorry!”
“It’s okay to be fashionably late, Chelsea…” Jazmyn says with a smile. Chelsea doesn’t respond aside from a chuckle to herself as she reaches her hotel room again and enters it to get ready for HKW’s #DinnerForAll

“I started out this year as one of the biggest jokes in professional wrestling that everyone blew off. I was told that I’d always be that joke… that I’d never amount to anything. But I’ve grown so much this year with everything that I’ve accomplished. There’s no way I’m going to let anyone take that away from me. In my heart, I feel like someone that’s about to become the HKW Tapout Champion. In 2020, I won three championships, became a mainstay of the HKW roster, broke the ceiling in GCWA and became a world champion, became the runner up in OCW’s manifest destiny tournament and all of these wonderful things…
All that’s left for me this year is to end 2020 on as bright of a note as possible and to go into 2021 with as much good things to build on for the future! 2021 is going to be the best year yet… I can feel it….”
