The scene opens to a black and dark screen. For a brief second we almost think there is something wrong with the view. However, moments later a familiar voice begins to speak in the background. As the voice speaks, the following message displays as we read along:
“Life has evolved to thrive in environments that are extreme only by our limited human standards: in the boiling battery acid of Yellowstone hot springs, in the cracks of permanent ice sheets, in the cooling waters of nuclear reactors, miles beneath the Earth's crust, in pure salt crystals, and inside the rocks of the dry valleys of Antarctica.”
The words fade away from the screen, as a color image begins to appear. Once the image is noticeable, we see the Unified X Division title, hung firmly on a plain white wall. The name “Crazy Chris” is displayed along the customized nameplate that seems to have recently been placed on the championship. We pan out as the wall is shown to be part of a recreational center. Upon further viewing, we find Crazy Chris playing a round of basketball with a few other unrecognizable gentlemen. Chris makes a shot and scores the final win for himself. We see an X written across his shirt in what appears t be a blue marker. All the players suddenly break out of the game and head towards the camera. However, the each take a seat at a bench next to where the view of the camera is.
“Good game boys, but I once again went “xtreme” on all of your asses.”
The gentlemen laugh as they raise their hands and high-five Chris as he takes a seat directly underneath the X Division title. Chris takes off his shirt and shoves it into a green bag next to his feet. He pulls out a clean shirt and puts it on. He adjusts the bottom and directs his attention towards the camera.
“You know, I’ve come to the realization that people are who they are and that we, the society, can’t change others to fit our own image. I figured the win last week would show that Dan and I are back and better than ever to take over the GCWA. However, there still seems to be some people around here that have some choice words about Dan and my character.”
Chris pulls out a towel and wipes a bit of sweat off his face, before continuing with his promo.
“Some people, even though it’s been over ten years, still have hurtful and hateful things to say about others. I mean, it’s been a hot minute so maybe you should let those feelings and attitudes go. This is 2009 anymore. It’s time to step into 2019 and take care of business. Stop bring personal life to mix with the business life. I don't think your personal life has anything to do with your professional life. They are separate things. Whatever is happening at home shouldn't be carried to work. Everyone has his/her own journey. Some revel in the fact that they derive that from personal contentment, and others draw it from extreme sorrow.”
For a moment it seems as though the image sits still. We continue staring at the screen trying our best to decipher what Chris seems to be saying. Some of us believe that it doesn’t make any sense, while others believe that it fits to a tee.
“This week my undefeated streak continues, as I take on Xtreme for the first time over a decade. The washed-up old man thinks that my time is up, and his time is now. Listen, you Mick Foley wannabe. My time isn’t up, and your time isn’t now. In fact, my time is just beginning. I have some ‘sour’ feelings about being left out of the newly created North American championship, so I have somewhat of a hate attitude going on currently. I’m not up for any attitude from the likes of a flannel wearing old geezer such as yourself Xtreme. I’m not cool with this match, but I’m cool with continuing to world championship glorification. I currently hold this here X Division title, but it isn’t enough. I want more gold, and you’re standing in my way of that Xtreme. I’m a pissed off freak who is overlooked for new gold and I’m not standing by and letting people talk bad about me. You want to call me out Xtreme? Well you’re going to get a full-on show come Friday night on Inferno.”
Again, we stare at the screen attempting to understand Chris. Could it be that he drank before this promo? Could he have smoked a little something before shooting this promo? I don’t think so because he doesn’t smoke and only drinks at clubs. We continue to listen in to Chris’ possible nonsense promo.
“We can appear to be tough as nails, but guys have a level of insecurity and vulnerability that's exponentially bigger than you think. With the primal urge to be alpha comes extreme heartbreak. The harder we fight, the harder we fall. This Friday night you’re bringing me a fight Xtreme but I’m going to make you fall even harder. You can say what you want about me, but deep down, you know the truth. You know that my determination and will-power is far more powering than you give me credit for. You’re scared that I’m going to humiliate you and make you look “extremely” bad, aren’t you Xtreme? Don’t you love all the so-called puns with your name? I could honestly go on and on, but I’m going to end it here.”
Chris stands to his feet and turns around now facing the X Division title hanging on the wall. He lifts it up and pulls it off whatever was holding it up. He lifts it directly towards the camera.
“This is the GCWA Unified X Division title that I won in 2010. I was given MY title back that I stated I would defend at all costs. I may not be defending it against you, but I will against anyone. If you want a shot at this title, then you know where to find me Xtreme. It’s going to be one hell of a crazy ride Xtreme. That is the Gospel of Crazy Chris: chapter FUCK verse YOU!”
With those final words Chris drapes the title over his shoulder and picks up the duffle bag off the floor. He turns his back to the camera as we watch him drift away into the dark hallway.
