This is what I want for my character...
Picture this. An 80 year old grandma has lived her life, the children and grandchildren are out of the hut. She spends her days knitting sweaters and scarves and socks for the family because they can't afford to buy clothes. She has her four cats as her constant companions. One day she gets the call from the higher-ups to go on an adventure with this ragtag group of people from different races. Armed with only her stab-tastic knitting needles and a bag of holding with an impossible amount of different colored and types of yarn in it, she sets out for the adventure of a life time. I figured human, but splashed wit a tenth elf. Like a great, great grandparent was a elf. Maybe have animal handling because of the cats, and the magical ability to knit anything within seconds because of her years of making clothes for the family.

She always has peppermint candy with her to hand out every encounter. You have a big battle planned for the group, only to have Granny roll a natural 20 to hand out candy to defuse the situation. Her name is Mildred, but her friends and grand kids call her Granny Milly. She has a small paddle made of elderwood that has spanked many butts over the generations in her family. She is attuned to her needles and "Ol' Spanky" so she could magically summon them at will.

The yarn needs to have some sort of magical properties depending on color.

For either offensive properties, but would be better for defense. Blue yarn ice resist, red fire, green poison, yellow lis like a torch, black invisibility, etc.

My DM said that they could be my cantrips. Red makes opponent slightly warm, blue makes them cold, yellow shrinks. All make opponents uncomfortable and the have to make a constitution saving throw. A fail gives them disadvantage on their next roll. I'm putting everything in charisma so I can guilt enemies to wear the clothes just knitted for them.

My wife now wants to run a bard based off of Barney Stinson from HIMYM. I told her this week that I will write down as full lists of disguises for her and the plays for them.

Forever DM and nerd here. If you're going into a magic class, you need to have one of these 4 cats as her familiar, if your DM allows it have all four, like 1 day they all start speaking to her telepathically. With the yarn, there's Wild Magic Surge which when I describe it and I learned this from another DM is like tugging at strings of intertwined magic. So, maybe you have this big mess of yarn in your bag of holding that you tug out to try and cast a spell. Also Wild Magic is hilarious, you can turn into a potted plant or some shit, it's wild.
Depending on your class as well there's a bunch of interesting stuff you can do but right now all I'm thinking of is an old lady Artificer that knits magical chainmail armor.
