The camera pans over the Los Angeles skyline before quickly pulling away from it. It settles on the outskirts of the city. An impressive white building with SpaceX written across it in smart writing stands over a small sprawling campus. It is very similar to the scene we last saw at NASA in Houston, down to the rockets standing up.
A car opens at the entrance. Ed Houston pops out with a very upset Bob Black looking mad and nervous following behind him.
Bob: “We’re all the way in Los Angeles. What the heck, Ed? How are we even going to get to Homecoming in time?”
Houston: “I don’t know, man. If this goes well, I might not even be going back.”
Bob: “You don’t mean that.”
Houston: “I do. Listen, wrestling has been fun but if I can get up to space, I will take it.
Bob looks frustrated but follows in Ed. Ed stops at the front desk and introduces himself to the receptionist.
Houston: “I’m Ed Houston.”
Receptionist: “Yes! Mr. Houston! We are excited to meet you. Stuart really enjoyed the conversation you had the other day, and he loves the idea of sending a former astronaut as our first person to outer space.”
Houston beams: “I’m glad to hear that. I can’t wait to speak to him.”
Receptionist: “He’ll be right out.”
Bob sits across from Ed in the waiting room, squirming.
Ed gets called.
Houston: “I’ll be back Bob.”
Bob looks mortified as Ed walks away. The scene changes and suddenly Ed is in a room with what can only be Stuart.
Houston: “You know, I had pretty much given up on ever going to outer space.”
Stuart: “I can understand that. You had a very public flameout.”
Houston nods: “Well thank you for giving the opportunity to redeem myself.”
Stuart: “Jim spoke highly of you an honestly having someone that has already gone through the training would both assure us you could handle going into outer space and save us a little bit of money.”
Houston: “I went through the entire training.”
Stuart: “So tell me a little more about why you want to sign up for this program?”
Houston looks lost in thought: “It’s always been my dream. Ever since I was a little kid. I worked day after day to get into NASA and when I finally got that letter, I was overjoyed. Failing after I was so close was absolutely heartbreaking but it’s all I think at night. And of course the cheer of the fans.”
Stuart: “What do you mean cheer of the fans?”
Houston: “What?”
Stuart: “You said something about fans?”
Houston: “Oh sorry. I must have gotten lost in the moment. I wrestle and sometimes the fans cheer. We’ll when your me they cheer a lot.”
Stuart laughs. “Cool. Well you are ready to take a break from that to do this right?”
Houston: “Oh yeah no problem.”
Suddenly Bob rushes down the fall. “Please Ed, let’s go back to Texas. You know you want to wrestle. And I want you to wrestle. For you. This place isn’t you any more.”
The receptionist trails behind Bob pleading him to go back to the lobby. “Sir you can’t be back here.”
Bob: “Come on Ed.”
Ed looks towards Bob and then back to Stuart and laughs.
He then turns back to Bob. “I have to at least finish this interview.”
Stuart shakes his head. “Ed, I appreciate you coming out tonight. I really do. But I can tell just from the look in your eyes you still want to wrestle. We need someone that can fully commit. I’m trying to be helpful to you. You should listen to Bob.”
Ed looks relieved. “Thanks man. I’m sorry I wasted your time.”
Stuart shakes his head. “We’re losing a good one, Ed. If you ever decide you want to pursue this get in contact with us. We will see what we can do.”
Ed follows Bob, who is now being led back to the lobby by the receptionist. He turns to Bob.
Houston: “I guess we should head back.”
The camera shows Ed and Bob exiting the building as the scene fades to black.
It is only after you let go of the past that you can look to your future with the bright ray of optimism needed to be a professional wrestler. In the back of mind, something always lurked. I don’t think it was the belief that NASA would take me back. I knew that ship had sailed but I think I always figured I could get to outer space. For now, I’ve tabled that dream. It has held me down for too long. Now I can finally fly to the highest of my ability. It couldn’t have happened at a better time for me.
The Big Bifford reminds me of a larger slightly more successful version of John Blade. He only has the same thing to say about all of us in this match and it just goes over and over until it kind of ends on a whimper. The Big Bifford thinks I’m too small, but I’ve beaten the taller Lurrr. Find a new slant. I know you're quite larger than Lurrr but I had you on the ropes a few weeks ago. With the confusion and chaos in this match, I can do just enough to take you out because you fail to look towards the future. You still want to talk about a win you had when I was still training in NASA over Derek Mobley. Were you still 400lbs then? Props to you! You have set a record for the longest person consistently living at that weight. Anyway, that win has nothing to do with today’s GCWA and the need to hold up a false championship that you never won in the first place shows you’re slipping Bifford. I can’t wait to see your fake GCWA World Championship! Don’t worry I will show the fans what a real one looks like.
Lurrr seems to not want to even show up this week. I’m not surprised. He should have just stayed in his retirement home when he was visiting it a few weeks ago. He doesn’t have enough left in the tank to beat three people. He’s been sputtering for weeks. He might have enough to attack someone who’s been out of the business for nearly a decade but at this point, even The Big Bifford might be able to catch him. I might not agree with Hunter about wanting to pick a champion but I can see why they didn’t pick Lurrr. Every time he heads out to the ring, they pray that he can make it through the match. Lurrr somehow makes Derek Mobley like he’s only been out of wrestling for five years.
I was so worried about The Big Bifford stretching out the belt when I should have realized the belt was already stretched out. I respect a legend but it’s sad to see the current state you in. Don’t worry, I’ll take the belt from you so you can watch all the porn you want. I have to admire you for trying to get back into shape but it will be too little too late. 10 years ago you might have been able to catch me, now you have no chance. So fit yourself into a suit. Get some good Instagram pictures, tweet them out, because after 10 years the GCWA Championship will have a new home and it will be with someone that can fly it to new heights. Dean might help you stand a chance in this match but he should stick to fitness. NASA really went to the moon and they’ve been to the moon many times since. Don’t underestimate me Mobley or I’ll extend the countdown to your title reign just to make your crash and burn that much sweeter.
When I walked into Space X, I had every intention of finding out what I needed to do to get into outer space, my home. Then I realized, GCWA is my home now. I need that belt to prove that I can protect my home. I’m the only person in this match that needs that belt. The Big Bifford has his “chicken” enterprise that is big enough that he can even fall back on it. Lurrr can always crawl back to the retirement home. Mobley can go to living the same life that he’s been living for the past ten years. This is clearly a hindrance to him, anyway. I don’t have the legacy to fall back on. I have some money but not enough money to fall back on. Years ago, I dipped my toes into professional wrestling, now I’ve dropped the dream that might have been holding me back. I’ve done a ton in the wrestling industry but haven’t held a world championship since Mobley’s been wrestling. It is the one thing I need for other people to take me seriously as a professional wrestler. At Homecoming, I’ll welcome the GCWA fans to the new me. They’ll see a Rocketman that flies higher than ever before. They’ll welcome the future home and at the end of the night, they will welcome home their new GCWA World Champion.
