GCWA News Break
The fact that the GCWA North American Title was the only championship not defended at GCWA Darkness Falls has been a point of discussion on many GCWA message boards. There was even some concern that the current champion, Shawn Warstein, might have suffered an unannounced injury, although these claims have since been proven false. According to sources attached to Legacy, the issue was simply that there were no deserving opponents for Warstein, hence why he took the night off to celebrate James Raven becoming GCWA World Champion.
In a separate portion of Darkness Falls, Mike Zybala, bringing his pillow with him, took a deliberate fall to Aaron Warthog in order to be given a future title shot. It's unknown how this deal came to fruition, although the involvement of co-owner The Accelerator cannot be discounted. While some weren't thrilled with this development, it may prove to be a successful strategy for the Outsiders owner. Word has broken now that Zybala has opted to 'cash in' this title opportunity on the first Friday Night Inferno in December, accepting the open challenge Warstein made earlier in the week.
This is sure to be a blockbuster match, as Zybala has proven himself formidable as a former GCWA World Tag-Team and GCWA Unified X-Division Champion. The quest to become a Grand Slam champion would mean Zybala would need to defeat Warstein for the North American Title. Warstein, for his part, wants to show the world that his championship reign is no fluke. With co-owner Deana Barrows and the rest of Legacy backing him up, Warstein would appear to be the strong favorite, at least on paper. But Zybala has, in recent days, shown his stronger connection with The Accelerator, including entering with him during the finale of the PPV, which could mean that Zybala's own connections will come into play on Friday.
We are still waiting word on which wrestler will answer Outcast's open challenge for the Unified X-Division Title. Expect another News Break when this information becomes available.
