I paced around the office a bit as Cecilia Ortiz, my business partner, looked on in amazement.
”Are you sure at your age you should be getting into the ring, Ky?”
I scoffed at her as I threw my nose in the air.
”Ce, I do MMA. I am simply not scared of a wrestling ring. Especially in GCWA. I mean, no one there can scare me. I have been doing this for fifteen years. I am not scared of a little competition.”
I could tell Cecilia was worried about me but I knew deep down she wanted me to succeed. She needed me to succeed because she and I were linked as business partners. Everyone would compare us regardless if we wanted them to or not. I sat in my chair as Cecilia smiled.
”If this is what you want then I support you. How are you being prepped for the battle royal? A match with James Raven or Shawn Warstein.”
I shook my head side to side in disapproval.
”You would think I could be placed in a match with one of them but I am stuck fighting some blonde bimbo named Memphis Belle.”
Cecilia looked on in confusion.
”Isn’t blonde bimbo what Geri called you the last night she was here?”
I interrupted her quickly.
”She called me a blonde slut. I can’t argue with that. Sluts are smart and know what they are doing. Bimbos are airheaded freaks.”
Cecilia nodded as she just wanted to change the subject.
”Sorry, my mistake. The question still remains. Why GCWA? Why this place in particular?”
The crazy part is, I hadn’t really considered why I chose GCWA. I mean, they do have the battle royal upcoming. I could have just done a one off but the ring was calling my name. I had been a professional wrestler for fifteen years. I had never questioned why I was anywhere and I wasn’t going to start with GCWA. I sat up straight as I looked at Cecilia.
”They are a company that we have a working relationship with. Deanna was kind enough to open her doors for us and for me as a competitor so I took it. I jumped at the opportunity to get back in the ring, like I always do. I jumped at the opportunity to prove that I still got it. Maybe that is my true motivation. At 39, I fear my career is almost over and I want to prove that I am not dead yet.”
A knock is heard at the door.
”Come in.”
Sara Cross, Revolution1’s newest International Champion, entered.
”You wanted to see me?”
I nodded as Cecilia smiled at Sara and the title on her shoulder.
”Yes, Miss Cross, I got a call from GCWA and they have approved your participation in their battle royal!”
Sara gleamed a pearly white smile from ear to ear as she jumped in excitement before patting the title on her shoulder.
”Don’t worry. Your representative will make sure Revolution1 looks great in this thing.”
I stood up and extended a hand to Sara. She shook it as I smirked and pulled her in closer whispering in her ear.
”You are not THE representative. You are ONE of the representatives. I am also representing our fine company. You see, before you ever wanted to be a wrestler, I was wrestling in high school gyms. While you were still having nap time, I was working out.”
Sara scoffed as she looked at me.
”So basically you are saying that you are old. Look, Kylie, I like you. I respect you… as my boss. In that ring, all bets are off and I am not scared to throw you out of the ring and back into the retirement home.”
With that, Cecilia saw it as her cue to jump between us.
”No doubt that you are both going to represent Revolution1 well. This is not the place for insults. Sara, you got your news, now you may leave.”
Sara smirked and nodded as she exited the office. Cecilia looked at me.
”Why did you step in there?”
Cecilia looked down at my hands.
”Kylie, your fists are balled up. I know you well. You would have hit Sara and then what? We end up on TMZ with the headline “Wrestling Owner hits talent… off script!” We don’t need any other bad publicity. Need I remind you about the last shit storm that went down on Twitter because of Nirv...”
I stopped her as I snapped.
”I know! You know my age is my weakness. I will not allow my age to hold me back. Not against Memphis Belle and not in the battle royal. Like everything and everyone, I am in it to win it! I will not falter. I can’t.”
Cecilia nodded.
”I know, Ky. Go get some rest. We have a lot to do to prepare for all of this..”
I nodded as Cecilia exited the office and the scene faded to black.
I hit the ropes as hard as I could, time and time again. My age was not going to hold me back. Not now. Not ever. I would continue wrestling into my 40s, 50s, hell maybe even my 60s if I wanted to. I stopped as I took a few sips of water. I looked at the camera set up about twenty feet from where I stood. I smirked as I spoke.
”Are you watching, GCWA? More importantly are YOU watching Memphis? Do you understand the magnitude of stepping into the ring with me? I have broken many barriers in this sport. I was the first ever openly lesbian tag team champion. I am the first, to my knowledge, transgender athlete to step into the ring in GCWA. Point is, I find ways to stand out. You are nothing more than a stale gimmick. You are a walking Trump ad. You are someone who needs to just go away.”
I laughed as my hair swayed side to side.
”The thing is, Memphis, I want to like you. I truly do. But with your overly patriotic bullshit I just want to vomit. Don’t get me wrong. I love that we can be what we want to be and what we feel like we are in this country. My kind of people aren’t tolerated everywhere. The problem is, for land of the free, I sure get ridiculed a lot. Look at me, I am all woman and yet some misogynistic assholes think they get to make that decision for me. To them, and as an extension to you, I say fuck you. I am going to make an example out of you come Inferno. I have to show this company, and this business, that I am more than a pretty face with tits and an ass. I am a fighter. I am a survivor. I am simply better than you.”
I sipped the water again before starting my alarm and running ropes for another ten minutes. Sweat dripping profusely from my brow as I laughed and sipped my water.
”Memphis, how are you preparing for me? I haven’t been in the ring for about a year. In that time, I have quit popping pills and quit drinking alcohol. I am in a lot better shape now, than I was when I was in my 20s. I can already hear you and the roster joking about my age, but is that all you’ve got? Is that all the ammo in your gun because those bullets will miss one hundred percent of the time.”
I started the alarm again and did some bumps for ten minutes straight. I sipped my water again before speaking.
”You see, my stamina is so great that I could literally go all night. I could make you, and the rest of the roster, tired just by watching me. Are you tired yet, Memphis? Are you tired of losing? Tough shit. This week is no different as you lose again.
The thing is Memphis, I want you to bring me a challenge. I need a challenge to prepare me for the Shawn Warstein’s, Atara Themis’, and Sara Cross’ that are in the battle royal. I need to have some competition to prepare me and my fear is that you are not it, Memphis. I want you to be but you just don’t have it in you. Maybe one day you will luck into some sort of victory over a wrestler but that day will not be December 4th and that opponent will not be me. You don’t understand, I need this victory. I need to prove to GCWA that I deserve to be here. I need to prove to the fans that I still got it. I gotta prove to myself that I still got it. I will put on a clinic and maybe something will stick and you will learn something new inside that ring this week. One thing won’t change and that is the fact that you will be lying on your back, looking at the lights in the rafters, wondering where it all went wrong. You just drew the unfortunate scenario of facing off with a legend of this sport. You are facing off with a multiple time champion who, at 39 years old, is in the best shape of her life. You are facing someone who has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Memphis, quite frankly, you are simply fucked.”
I stopped talking. The time for talk was done. The time for action was now. Memphis Belle wasn’t ready. I was going to kick her ass and then be ready to take on all comers in the Righteous Rumble. I would show all the non believers that God truly was a woman and her name is Kylie Moore. One step at a time. One match at a time. I had to prove it all over again. And prove it I shall. I began running the ropes again as the scene faded to black.
”Are you sure at your age you should be getting into the ring, Ky?”
