Tony Savage has been known for fighting all his life. From battlefields in Afghanistan, to rings and boardrooms across the world, he seems to always be neck deep in conflict.
But his latest mission doesn't involve rival wrestlers or insurgents, but rather, his smallest and most deadly adversary. And he is not shying away from this conflict.
Savage, 30, has devoted large portions of his time and fortune raising money and delivering medical supplies to areas in the U.S. and U.K. deeply impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. Three weeks ago, he and his wife, Cassandra, 29, have formed a charity called Gunning For a Cure, a unique collaboration between members of industries not known for their charity towards their fellow man.
Myself and several other companies involved in private security and defense contracting gathered together to fight a threat that goes beyond and conflict or squabbles we're used to. COVID19 doesn't care what party people vote with, what color their skin is, or what type of god they worship. All it does is inflict misery upon people. Since this virus is so non-discriminating, we all who took up this endeavor, regardless of whether we're friends or rivals in our particular world, have put all rivalries and beefs aside to head this pandemic off.
In three weeks, Savage and Gunning for a Cure have raised over $44 million in funding for medical supplies and virology research into the virus. In addition, Tony himself has been proactive, going into areas hard hit by the virus, such as New York, London, and Lombardy, Italy, overseeing and personally delivering supplies to these regions.
In addition, Tony's wife and chairperson of G.F.C., Dr. Cassandra Baker Savage, has also burnt the midnight oil to help her native nation, the U.K., deal with this unprecedented disaster
The work everyone involved in this project has been terrific. Many people, including my husband, have put their lives on hold, and often at risk, to aid those affected by this disease. We're still miles away from where the world needs to be, and we're just one entity doing our part. But, we hope the example our foundation displays inspires those that wouldn't ordinarily cooperate to save lives.
Tony and Cassandra themselves have donated nearly $4 million of their personal fortune to fight COVID19, and Tony has announced all salary and bonuses from GCWA matches will be donated to charities dedicated to corona relief.
