*The cameras slowly come up on a podium, set up in an unknown building. Presumably, this is somewhere nearby Lubbock, Texas, where the next GCWA Friday Night Inferno is scheduled to take place. A few reporters can be seen milling around, waiting for their chance to fire questions and act important. Suddenly, the energy in the room rises, as Jonathan "Pryde" Barrows, the son of the Accelerator, makes his way out from the back. He talks once more to an apparent adviser, nodding, before walking up to the podium, where several microphones have been attached.*
Jonathan Barrows: Good morning, everyone. Thank you for coming out today.
*A few reporters immediately start trying to raise their hands and ask questions, but Jonathan puts out an arm, silencing them.*
Jonathan Barrows: We can get to questions in a little while. As of right now, I'd like to talk about the future of the GCWA.
*That quiets the reporters down, as they take their seats. Most are holding up recording devices of some kind. One is holding a laptop up, which is strange, but works.*
Jonathan Barrows: First off, after two very successful shows, the Global Championship Wrestling Association now finds itself in a much more stable situation. Funding, both from ticket sales and from advertisers and donations, will help this company move into the future with a great deal of confidence. We are already experiencing a nearly sold out show in the United Supermarkets Arena here in Lubbock as well, although there are still seats available for the fans who want to make the trip here to Buddy Holly's backyard.
*The local reporters smile and nod, always loving a reference to Buddy. The larger beat writers aren't as impressed.*
Jonathan Barrows: Due to this increased exposure and interest, we have been able to negotiate with the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, and we can now announce that we're going to move into a more permanent home for the GCWA by the end of the month. We look forward to building our business deep in the heart of Texas, where we hope to become just as strong an attachment there as the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars.
Reporter #1: What about the Dallas Mavericks?
*The crowd hushes the reporter. Nobody wants to talk about the Mavericks.*
Jonathan Barrows: Since we won't be moving in yet, however, the GCWA will remain on tour until our permanent home is established. Hence, next week, we are set to move into the Amarillo Civic Center for our 9/20 show. Tickets are on sale now at all Select-A-Seat locations. This will be a very exciting show, in the aftermath of our Round Robin Tournament.
*Jonathan pauses for a moment, looking around at the reporters before continuing.*
Jonathan Barrows: As you can see, the GCWA is an organization on the way up. The future is bright. But to reach this future, we need the wrestling superstars of the future. While talent like The Big Bifford and The Danger Boiz are well-known to the fans, there are so many talented athletes out there that deserve their own chance to shine in the GCWA. I am here today to guarantee that any new wrestlers who have never competed in the company will be given immediate opportunities to become champions and earn their place in GCWA history. Join us in creating a new era!
*Jonathan nods at the camera, even showing a very slight version of a smile. It is now apparently time for questions.*
Reporter #2: Jonathan, is it true you've been in contact with other organizations, for potential partnerships in the near future?
Jonathan Barrows: I can confirm that there have been some discussions. This week, for instance, the GCWA will be airing the first show of Outsiders Championship Wrestling in their return.
Reporter #2: Is this due to you having signed talent in this match?
Jonathan Barrows: I don't believe we have any involvement in this show.
Reporter #2: But what about the Janitor?
*Jonathan points to the next reporter, not continuing the line of questioning.*
Reporter #3: You've talked about having younger talent involved in your organization, but your most recent signee, Chad Vargas, has been in this business for a long time. Do you see any contradictions in this signing?
Jonathan Barrows: Mr. Vargas is very experienced in the wrestling business, which is a major plus for our company. While he did spend a little time in his youth in the GCWA, he made himself a star in other organizations, and he is an amazing signing. We are expecting big things from him.
Reporter #1: Many are speculating on the likelihood of a Lurrr/Derek Mobley GCWA World Title fight, bringing back memories of 2009. How do you square this match-up with your "new era"?
*Jonathan takes a moment to sip on his drink, which is clearly not just water, before responding.*
Jonathan Barrows: The Round Robin Tournament, which my father set up, has been a major success. We still believe that a young star like "The Rocketman" Ed Houston can still be victorious, and would make an incredible GCWA World Champion. However, we will honor the terms of the tournament, and of the contract that my father signed with Derek "The Thriller" Mobley. Whoever ends up becoming the GCWA World Heavyweight Champion, I am certain they will have plenty of strong talent to challenge them for the belt.
Reporter #4: How are discussions on a television deal going?
Jonathan Barrows: Very well.
Reporter #4: ... That's it? Any more details?
Jonathan Barrows: I'm afraid that's all the time we have for questions. Thank you all again for coming.
*Jonathan steps away from the podium, as a few more questions get sent fruitlessly his direction. The camera fades out.*
